Consumption tax points

Capital of 10 million yen or more means tax from year one

New companies can often be exempt from consumption tax for their first two years. However, companies with capital of 10 million yen or more must pay consumption tax from their first year. This is important for companies that have large capital to meet Business Manager visa requirements.

Qualified invoice registration

Your customers need qualified invoices to deduct consumption tax on what they pay you. Whether registration makes sense depends on whether your customers are mainly businesses or consumers. We explain the pros and cons and handle the registration.

Exports and services to overseas customers

Exports and certain services provided to overseas companies are exempt from consumption tax if the conditions are met. Supporting documents must be kept.

FAQ

Can you handle the year-end filing only?

Yes. If you keep your own books, we can take on just the year-end and returns. We quote based on the condition of the books.

What should we watch for in transactions with our overseas parent?

Common issues include whether prices between group companies are at arm's length (transfer pricing) and withholding tax on payments abroad. We advise based on your transactions.
